Introduction  Volume 1
Afro Gurl is a cartoon series about a queer, masc-presenting “hero,” who exudes brilliance, intensity, and impulsiveness while carrying a deep sensitivity and empathy for others. Her journey is shaped by her close relationships, her deep desire for belonging, and a mysterious past tied to her origins, giving her unique abilities and an unyielding drive to fight for a better world.

Afro Gurl's story is set in a post-apocalyptic society grappling with the fallout of humanity's decisions, including environmental collapse, the consequences of powerful monopolies, and systemic oppression. One day, Afro Gurl discovers something extraordinary, an unexpected power that thrusts her into a different universe. It is a utopia, a fantasy fully realized and a glimpse of what could be.

But just as quickly, she is pulled back into her own reality, unable to control when or how she moves between worlds. Desperate to prove that a better future is possible, she searches for a way to reconnect with her gift, uncover the truth about these alternate dimensions, and bring that knowledge home to change her world.

Afro Gurl represents the belief that a better world is possible and the courage it takes to build one.

Afro Gurl and supporting characters have gone through countless iterations and stylistic explorations for many years. Afro Gurl, inspired by the animated TV series and films of the early 60s through the 90s, was created with the vision of one day evolving into a full-fledged world and animated experience. This series explores themes of grief, self-reflection, generational trauma, triumph, love, and justice through humor and emotional observations.Coming soon: Afro Gurl graphic novel series, Afro Gurl online shop, and more.
